A Tale of Two Ice Arenas
Minnesota has had a tradition of skating since the late 1800's. Minnesotans have been world champions, Olympic medalists, skate inventors and entrepreneurs. Unlike with many other sports, skating encompasses a wide-range of sensibilities–the aggressiveness of hockey, the thrill of speed skating, and the elegant beauty of figure skating. All of this activity housed under one roof. AKA's designers are grounded in Minnesota's tradition of ice skating and innovation, creating ice facilities across the country that are at once highly-functional, resource conscious, and attractive.
Two of our most recent projects have been right in our own backyard, Rogers Activity Center and Lakeville Ice Arena, located in Rogers and Lakeville, Minnesota respectively. The two facilities share much in common, both are nearly 50,000 square feet in size and both serve their area schools and youth hockey associations. In the Den with Mike O'Hearn |

In 1996, AKA met Michael O'Hearn, who at the time was Vice President of Hockey Operations/Facilities for the NHL's Phoenix Coyotes. Mike was leading the development of a top-notch training facility for the team that would become known as the "Ice Den." This development project would allow Mike to utilize a variety of his talents and demonstrate his ever-growing leadership-skills.
Like so many of us, Mike's career hasn't necessarily made a straight line to where he is today, President of Coyotes Ice, LLC. However, his path from collegiate football player to broadcaster to public relations for an NHL team to facility developer followed his passions for new challenges and meeting new people.
